(E)-3-(5-Benzyloxycarbonyl-3-methylthiophen-2-yl)-2-propenoic acid tert-butyl ester (1.42 g, 4.12 mmol) obtained in step 3 was dissolved in ethanol (12 mL), 10% palladium/carbon (142 mg) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight under a hydrogen atmosphere. After completion of the reaction, palladium/carbon was removed by celite filtration, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (1.02 g, 3.77 mmol, 92%).
