Using the procedure described in Example 308A Step 1, to a solution of 4-methyl-3-oxopentanenitrile (303 mg, 2.7 mmol) prepared as described in Example 122A Step 1, in anhydrous EtOH (13 ml) was added 3-hydrazinylpyridine hydrochloride (450 mg, 3.1 mmol) and the reaction mixture was heated at 80° C. overnight to afford 3-isopropyl-1-(pyridin-3-yl)-1H-pyrazol-5-amine (179 mg, 28%) as a solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.25 (d, J=7 Hz, 6H), 2.90-2.99 (m, 1H), 3.93 (brs, 2H), 5.50 (s, 1H), 7.36-7.38 (m, 1H), 7.96 (d, J=8 Hz, 1H), 8.49 (d, J=7 Hz, 1H), 8.67 (s, 1H); LC-MS (ESI) m/z 203 (M+H)+.
