120 mg of 4-oxetan-3-yl-3-(2-m-tolyl-ethoxy)-benzoic acid isopropyl ester were dissolved in 3 ml of methanol and 0.2 ml of a 2 N aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide added. The mixture was left at room temperature for 6 days and then evaporated. The residue was dissolved in 10 ml of water, the pH adjusted to 2 with an aqueous sodium hydrogensulfate solution, and the mixture extracted three times using 20 ml each of DCM. The combined extracts were dried with magnesium sulfate and evaporated to yield 105 mg of the title compound.
