250 mg of 4-((E)-2-Methanesulfonyl-vinyl)-3-(2-m-tolyl-ethoxy)-benzoic acid methyl ester were dissolved using 10 ml of methanol and hydrogenated under an 1.5 bar atmosphere of hydrogen using 50 mg of Pd/C (10%, 50% water) for 30 minutes. The catalyst was then removed by filtration and the solution evaporated to yield 250 mg of the title compound that was used without further purification.
