Procedure
A 500-mL Parr hydrogenation bottle was charged with 128a (1.9 g, 9.6 mmol), 10% palladium on carbon (50% wet, 570 mg dry weight) and ethanol (100 mL). The bottle was evacuated, charged with hydrogen gas to a pressure of 50 psi and shaken for 24 h on a Parr hydrogenation apparatus. The catalyst was removed by filtration through a pad of Celite 521 washing with 1:1 CH2Cl2:MeOH (500 mL). The resulting residue was purified by column chromatography eluting with a gradient of 100% DCM-100% 3:1 DCM:MeOH to afford a 70% yield (1.1 g) of 128b.
