Procedure
A mixture of 5-bromo-2-furancarboxylic acid (7.17 g, 37.54 mmol) and thionyl chloride (55 ml) is heated at 90° C. overnight. After the mixture has cooled to room temperature, the solvent is removed in vacuo, and the residue is washed with heptane. 5-Bromofuran-2-carbonyl chloride is obtained as a pale beige solid.
