To a suspension of [5-(2-ethylbenzoimidazol-1-yl)-7-morpholin-4-ylthiazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidin-2-yl]methanol (1.18 g, 2.97 mmol) in DCM (60 mL) was added PBr3 (3.36 mL, 3.36 mmol, 1M solution in DCM) and the resulting mixture allowed to stir at r.t. for 1 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with DCM and the organic phase washed with H2O and brine, then dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo affording the title compound as a yellow solid (673 mg, 49%). LCMS (method H): RT 3.24 min, [M+H]+ 459.1 and 461.1 (1:1)
