To a stirred mixture of 0.9 gram (0.0061 mole) of 2-methylindanylamine (known compound) in 20 mL of diethyl ether was added 0.53 gram (0.0062 mole) of 2-chloroethyl isocyanate. The reaction mixture was stirred for one hour at which time it was filtered. The filter cake was rinsed with diethyl ether, then was dried under reduced pressure to yield 1.2 grams of [(2-chloro-ethyl)amino]-N-(2-methylindanyl)carboxamide as a solid, melting point 105-106° C. The NMR spectrum was consistent with the proposed structure.
