Di-tert-butyl[3-(2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10,11,12-decaborabicyclo[7.2.1]dodec-1-yl)propyl]imidodicarbonate from Example 1 (2.21 g, 5.50 mol) was dissolved in a saturated solution of HCl in EtOAc (100 ml). The solution was stirred overnight at r.t. and then evaporated. The white fluffy precipitate was washed with dry ether. The precipitate was then dissolved in water and the solution was basified with an aqueous saturated solution of Na2CO3 (40 ml). The aqueous layer was extracted with ether and the combined organic extracts were washed with brine (3×10 ml). Removing of the solvent under vacuum afforded the free amine.
