100 mg of 5% palladium on carbon were added to a solution of 5 g (20.1 mmol) of 3-[5-(2-fluoro-phenyl)-thiophen-2-yl]-acrylic acid in 200 ml of methanol, and the reaction mixture was hydrogenated at atmospheric pressure and room temperature for 7 days. The mixture was filtered and evaporated. The product was purified by silica gel chromatography. Yield: 2.9 g.
