Procedure

A solution of 1.8 g of 3-acetamido-1,1-dichlorobut-1-ene and 1,0 g of sodium methylate in 20 ml of methanol is heated at the boiling point under reflux for 24 hours. Thereafter, the methanol is distilled off, the residue is taken up in 5 ml of water and 30 ml of methylene chloride and the organic phase is separated off and distilled in vacuo. 0.9 g of 2,4-dimethyl-5-methoxymethyl-oxazole is obtained, boiling point 54° C./120 mbar.
