In the same apparatus and procedure as Example 1 above, 0.26 g (0.79 mmol) of benyltributylphosphonium chloride, 1.01 ml (7.98 mmol) of benzyl chloride, and 2.42 g (24.0 mmol) of dichlorosilane were reacted at 150° C. for 2 hrs. The resulting mixture was distilled to give 0.29 g of benzyldichlorosilane (yield; 19%) and 0.95 g of benzyltrichlorosilane (yield; 53%).
