This compound was prepared in a manner similar to that of 5'-fluoro-2'-methoxy-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylic acid (EXAMPLE 107) from methyl 2'-methoxy-5'-methyl-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylate (2.02 g) to afford 1.93 g (99%) of 2'-methoxy-5'-methyl-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylic acid as a white solid. Data for 2'-methoxy-5'-methyl-4-nitro-2-biphenylcarboxylic acid: 1H NMR (400 MHz, acetone-d6) 8.63 (d, J=2.5, 1H), 8.42 (dd, J=8.5, 2.5, 1H), 7.63 (d, J=8.5, 1H), 7.19 (m, 1H), 7.14 (d, J=2.2, 1H), 6.93 (d, J=8.4, 1H), 3.70 (s, 3H), 2.32 (s, 3H).
