Reaction Steps

Ethyl-2-tridecyl-thiazole acetate (2.13 g, 6.35 mmol) and potassium hydroxide (0.39 g, 6.98 mmol) were refluxed overnight in ethanol (200 mL). The mixture was then acidified with 1M HCl and the precipitate filtered to give a solid which was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered concentrated, and triturated with hexanes. The solid was filtered and air dried to yield 0.75 g, 37%. % C,H,N(found): C, 66.16; H, 9.50; N 3.99.
