To a solution of 5,5-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-3-(3-fluorophenyl)-4-(4-(methylsulfonyl)phenyl)-2,5-dihydrofuran (Example 1, 500 mg, 1.38 mmol) in 5 mL of EtOH was added 3 drops of BF3.OEt2. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 45 min, and the resulting precipitate was filtered and washed with EtOH to provide 497 mg of the title compound as a white solid.
