A stirred solution of 3-cyclopentyloxy-4-methoxyaniline (1 g) and triethylamine (0.69 mL) in dry dichloromethane (20 mL) is treated dropwise at 0°-5° C. with a solution of 2,6-dichlorophenyl isocyanate (0.9 g) in dry dichloromethane (10 mL). The resulting mixture is stirred for 30 minutes at this temperature and then for 6 hours at room temperature. The precipitate which forms is collected and stirred with isopropanol (50 mL), with ice cooling. The resulting solid is collected and dried, to give N-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-N'-(3-cyclopentyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)urea (1.06 g), m.p. 203°-204° C.
