Procedure
A solution of 1-(5-amino-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-7-yl)-3-dimethylaminopropan-1-one (D15) (2.5 g) in ethanol (200 ml) was treated with sodium borohydride (1.22 g) and stirred for 4 h at room temperature. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue partitioned between water and dichloromethane. The organic phase was dried (Na2SO4) and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure to give the title compound as an orange/red solid (2.12 g, 84%).
