Procedure
Two moles acid chloride of terephthalic acid ##STR60## and three moles of 1,6-hexanediol [HO(CH2)6OH] are placed in a 100 mL flask equipped with a distillation extender, a septum, and a stirring magnet. The flask is flushed with argon for 15 min. then heated in an oil bath at about 150° C. The HCl in the argon flow can be monitored by pH paper--a more quantitative method uses a basic solution of known normality and allows the argon flow to bubble through. The solution is then titrated and the extent of reaction can be calculated. The reaction time is about 4 to 8 hours.
