6-hydroxy-5-nitro-2-picoline (500 mg, 3.247 mmol) was dissolved in methanol:dichloromethane (5:1, 60 ml) and 10% palladium on active carbon was added thereto slowly, and then stirred for 2 hours with adding hydrogen gas at room temperature. The reaction mixture was filtered by using celite and evaporated under reduced pressure to quantitatively obtain white solid (400 mg).
