To a solution of 8-chloro-7-(2-propen-1-yl)-3-({[2-(trimethylsilyl)ethyl]oxy}methyl)-3,7-dihydro-1H-purine-2,6-dione (3.14 g, 8.82 mmol) in DMF (50 ml) was added methyl iodide (0.659 ml, 10.58 mmol) and caesium carbonate (3.45 g, 10.58 mmol) and the reaction mixture stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction mixture was partioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic extract was separated, washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to afford the title compound 2.99 g (92%); m/z 388 [MNH4+].
