Reaction Steps

To a solution of (2S,3R,4R,5S,6R)-2-[4-Chloro-3-(4-ethoxy-benzyl)-phenyl]-6-trityloxymethyl-tetrahydro-pyran-3,4,5-triol (9.8 g, 15 mmole) in dry DMF (50 mL), sodium hydride (3.2 g 50% in oil, 67.8 mmole) was added at 0° C. and stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. Benzyl bromide (5.9 mL, 49.7 mmole), tetrabutylammoniuliodide (500 mg) added and the reaction mixture stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with water (500 mL) and extracted with DCM (2×500 mL). The crude product obtained after removal of solvent to furnish 12.3 g of (2S,3S,4R,5R,6R)-3,4,5-tris-benzyloxy-2-[4-chloro-3-(4-ethoxy-benzyl)-phenyl]-6-trityloxymethyl-tetrahydro-pyran.
