Reaction Steps
When the genetically modified mutant of Candida tropicalis was cultured batchwise using glycerol as a cosubstrate, D-xylose in the medium was consumed completely in about 48 hours and produced xylitol with 98.3% of yield and 0.97 g l−1 h−1 of volumetric productivity. However, in case of fed-batch culture, D-xylose in the medium was consumed in about 14-15 hours and produced xylitol with 97-100% of yield and 3.48 g l−1 h−1 of volumetric productivity. As a result, it was demonstrated that fed-batch culture was more efficient to produce xylitol than batch culture.
