A solution of 4-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride (Fluka, 1.00 g; 4.51 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) was treated with triethylamine (1.25 ml; 9.02 mmol) and 3-amino-1,2-propanediol (Aldrich, 518 μl; 6.77 mmol). After 2 hours, the organic solvents were evaporated in vacuo, the residue was taken up in EtOAc and extracted with a saturated NH4Cl solution. The combined organic layers were dried over MgSO4 and evaporated to dryness to give the title compound as a yellow solid.
