A solution of tert-butyl 4,4′-bipiperidine-1-carboxylate (537 mg; 2.00 mmol) in dry THF (10 mL) was treated with triethylamine (307 μL; 2.20 mmol). A solution of 3,5-dichloro-1,2,4-thiadiazole (341 mg; 2.20 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was added dropwise at ambient temperature. An immediate precipitate was accompanied by a mild exotherm. The mixture was stirred until it returned to ambient temperature. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate evaporated to afford the title compound.
