Procedure

A solution of 1,2-epithio-3-p-tolyl-3-butene (40 mg, 0.23 mmol) and Cu(hfacac)2 (1.1 mg, 2.3 μmol) in benzene (1 mL) was heated at 80° C. for 2 h in a pressure tube. Concentration of the solvent in vacuo afforded a residue, which was purified by column chromatography (n-pentane) to give 2,5-Dihydro-3-(p-tolyl)thiophene (34 mg, 85%) as a white solid.
