A mixture of 3-Cyano-5-methyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (0.51 g, 2.81 mmol), NBS (1.05 g, 5.91 mmol), and ACHN (0.032 g, 0.14 mmol) in CCl4 (4 ml) was refluxed in a pressure tube 15 h. The reaction mixture was cooled and evaporated. The residue was purified by column (0-15% EtOAc in hexane) to give 0.16 g (22%) yellow solid.
