Triethylamine (0.65 ml) and octadecyl isocyanate (1.47 ml) were added to a solution of N-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-[2-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl]formamide (1.01 g) in dichloromethane (10 ml). After being stirred for 19 hours at room temperature, the reaction mixture, with chloroform added thereto, was washed with water, dried over sodium sulfate anhydride, and then concentrated. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (silica gel 40 g, chloroform:methanol=50:1-10:1), thereby yielding 1.36 g of the aimed compound as white wax.
