Hydroquinone bislauric acid methyl ester prepared in Example 1 (2.8 g) was stirred in sodium hydroxide ethanol/water solution at room temperature for 12 hours. At first, the solution was cloudy. By the end of the reaction, the solution was clear. The crude product was extracted with n-butanol twice. After the solvent was rotevaporated, the remaining material was washed with ethanol. The white solid material was collected by filtration. NMR results showed that the material is the desired product. ##STR23##
