Reaction Steps
2.15 g (5.1 mmol) of 2-[(4-cyanophenyl)-oxymethyl]-4-methyl-7-phthalimido-quinoline are dissolved in 75 ml of toluene/methanol (2:1), mixed with 7.5 ml of 40% aqueous methylamine solution and stirred for 2 hours at ambient temperature. Then the solution is concentrated by evaporation in vacuo, the residue is stirred with 2N acetic acid, suction filtered and dried. The crude product is chromatographed on silica gel, eluting first with methylene chloride, later with methylene chloride/ethanol (50:1). The desired fractions are combined, concentrated by evaporation and triturated with ether.
