Reaction Steps
4-(3-Fluorobenzyl)piperidine hydrochloride. A solution of 1-benzyl-4-(3-fluorobenzyl)piperidine hydrochloride (319 mg, 1.0 mmol) in 10 ml of methanol with 80 mg of 10% Pd/C was hydrogenated at 50 psi to give 228 mg (98%) of the title compound, mp 173-175° C. 1H NMR (CHCl3) 1.613-1.807 (m, 5 H), 2.593 (m, 2 H), 2.785 (m, 2 H), 3.481 (m, 2 H), 6.880 (m, 3 H), 7.25 (m, 1 H), 9.363 (s, 1 H), 9.634 (s, 1 H).
