Reaction Steps

65.5 mg (0.126 mmol) of methyl 6-[(2-butyl-4-chloro-5-formyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]-2-(2-methoxycarbonyl-phenyl)-4-quinolinecarboxylate obtained in Example 7 was dissolved in a mixed solvent of 2 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 2 ml of methanol and the mixture was stirred. After adding 5.24 mg (0.139 mmol) of sodium borohydride, the reaction mixture was allowed to react at room temperature for one hour. Then, the reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and dichloromethane was added to the residue followed by washing with a saturated sodium chloride solution. The organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to obtain 50.6 mg of methyl 6-[(2-butyl-4-chloro-5-hydroxymethyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)methyl]-2-(2-methoxycarbonyl-phenyl)-4-quinolinecarboxylate.
