Procedure
A mixture of 5-chloromethyl-2,3-dimethoxy-6,7-dimethylquinoxaline (Preparation 3) (60 mg, 0.22 mmol) and imidazole (1.0 g, 14.7 mmol) was heated at 110° C. for 30 minutes, cooled and diluted with water. The resulting suspension was sonicated for 5 minutes at 20° C. and the solid filtered off. The solid was washed with water, and then hexane, affording 5-(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-2,3-dimethoxy-6,7-dimethyl-quinoxaline (41 mg, 61%) as an off-white solid.
