To a solution of 2-(2-morpholinoethyl)thieno[2,3-d]pyrimidine (1.0 g, 3.79 mmol) in DCM (50 mL) at 0° C. was added a solution of bromine (1.2 eq) in DCM (3 mL) dropwise. The resulting solution was stirred at 0° C. for 30 min. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated solution of NH4Cl. The layers were separated, and the aqueous layer was extracted with DCM (3×25 mL). Organic layers were combined, washed with brine (2×30 mL), dried over MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to provide the title compound (0.910 g). MS (ES+): 345 (M+H)+.
