Starting from 1.03 g. of (+)-2-acetamido-4-(2-amino-5-chlorophenyl)-4-oxo-butyric acid as described above for the preparation of (R)-enantiomer, 0.65 g (71.4%) of (S)-(-)-2-amino-4-(2-amino-5-chlorophenyl)-4-oxo-butyric acid were obtained (m.p. 208°-209° C. (dec.); [α]20D =-12.6° (1%, CH3COOH); ee=96%).
