A solution of 5-bromo-3-(cyclopentylamino)-N-((4,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridin-3-yl)methyl)-2-methylbenzamide (1 equiv.), (4-formylphenyl)boronic acid (1.2 equiv.) and Pd (PPh3)4 (0.1 equiv.) in 1,4-dioxane (4 mL) was purged with argon for 10 min. Then, 2 M Na2CO3 solution (3.6 equiv.) was added to it and argon was purged again for 10 min. The reaction mixture was stirred at 100° C. for 2 h. After cooling to room temperature water was added to the mixture and then product was extracted with DCM. The combined organic layers were washed with water, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford crude material which was purified by column chromatography over silica gel (60-120 mesh size) to afford 5-(cyclopentylamino)-N-((4,6-dimethyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridin-3-yl)methyl)-4′-formyl-4-methyl-[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-carboxamide.
