Reaction Steps

To a solution of NaOEt prepared by dissolving Na (50 mg, 1.47 mmol) in EtOH (2.5 ml), was added 2-cyano-N-(3-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)acetamide (297.5 mg, 1.23 mmol) and 2-amino-3-pyridine-carboxaldehyde (150.0 mg, 1.23 mmol). The mixture was refluxed for 30 minutes. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue chromatographed CH2Cl2/MeOH 95:5→92:8, yielding 244.5 mg (57%) of the title compound.
