Procedure
A solution of 2-methyl-2-[4-(5-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-2-yl)-piperazin-1-yl]-propionic acid methyl ester (1.05 g, 3.17 mmoles) from Example 14B in dioxane (10 mL) was treated with 5N potassium hydroxide (10 mL) and stirred for 4 hours at 60° C. The dioxane was removed under reduced pressure, the residue was neutralized with 1N HCl to pH=7 and extracted three times with 4:1 THF:DCM. The combined organic extracts were dried (MgSO4), filtered and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the title compound as a white solid.
