A mixture containing crude 53 (˜6.2 g, 17.9 mmol) and 10% Pd-on-carbon (wet, 1.9 g, 1.8 mmol) in MeOH (200 mL) was stirred vigorously under an atmosphere of H2. After 3 h, the catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford 4.5 g of 54 as a colorless oil which was used without further purification.
