Procedure

To a solution of Intermediate 59 (5.09 g, 10 mmol) in ethanol (30 mL) was added 2N NaOH (18 mL, 35 mmol). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The crude reaction was concentrated and the residue was diluted with ethyl acetate (50 mL) and washed with water (2×25mL). The aqueous layer was acidified to pH 2 with HCl and then extracted with ethyl acetate (2×50 mL). The organic layers were dried (Na2SO4) and the solvent removed under reduced pressure. The titled compound was obteined (4.23 g, 88%).
