Procedure

Coupling of (2,6-dimethylbenzyl)triphenylphosphonium bromide with methyl 3-formylbenzoate following the method described in Example 1 gave methyl 3-(2,6-dimethylstyryl)benzoate as a white solid 2.20 g (71%), isomer ratio 2:1 trans:cis.
