Reaction Steps

Cyclohexyl-[3-(3-dimethoxymethyl-4-nitro-phenoxy)-phenyl]-carbamic acid benzyl ester (0.0027 mol) was dissolved in THF (12 mL). Water (6 mL) and 12N HCl (3 mL) were added and the reaction mixture was stirred for 42 hours at room temperature. Water was added. This mixture was extracted with diisopropyl ether. The organic layer was separated, washed with a 10% aqueous NaHCO3 solution and then with water, dried (MgSO4) and filtered. The solvent was then evaporated to yield a residue that was used in the next reaction step without further purification.
