A solution of 80 mg (0.24 mmol) of 8-(2-chloro-acetyl)-4-oxo-4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]quinoline-1-ethyl carboxylate in 420 μL (4.8 mmol) of morpholine is heated at 60° C. for 4 hours. Water is added and the solid is filtered and then purified by chromatography on silica (eluent dichloromethane/methanol 95/5) to give 24 mg (26%) of 8-(2-morpholin-4-yl-acetyl)-4-oxo-4,5-dihydro-3H-pyrrolo[2,3-c]quinoline-1-ethyl carboxylate in the form of a brown solid.
