Procedure
To a solution of 480 mg 26a in 10 mL methanol was added a solution of 164 mg potassium hydroxide in 10 mL water. The mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 5 h and then at 50° C. for 16 h. The reaction mixture was poured into a 2M solution of citric acid in water and was extracted with 2×50 mL dichloromethane. The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give 460 mg of compound 26b.
