PROCEDURE

A solution of the product from step 1 (293 mg) in 3 mL of NaOH/MeOH (10%, w/w) is heated to 60° C. for 6 h, then subsequently cooled to room temperature and concentrated. The residue is dissolved in EtOAc (30 ml) and is washed with brine, and dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to give the crude product, which is by purified flash chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc/Hex: 1/1) to provide 2-[4-(4-chloro-phenoxy)-phenylamino]-2-(3-methoxy-phenyl)-ethanol (202 mg).
