Powdered KOH (4.24 g, 75.48 mmol) and tetrabutylammonium hydrogen sulfate (1.97 g, 5.81 mmol) were added to a solution of tert-butyl 2-isopropylidenehydrazinecarboxylate (10 g, 58.05 mmol) in toluene (150 mL).
