To a one-liter flask containing 90 parts of concentrated aqueous ammonia and 150 parts of ether, there is added over three hours, 105 parts of 4-bromo-2,5-diisopropylbenzenesulfonyl chloride in 180 parts of ether. After stirring 2 hours longer, the excess ammonia is neutralized by adding 10% HC1. The organic layer is washed two times with 200 parts of saturated sodium chloride and is dried over sodium sulfate. Removal of the solvent gives 92 parts of 4-bromo-2,5-diisopropylbenzenesulfonamide which may be recrystallized from 1-chlorobutane, m.p. 145°-152°.
