Procedure

12.0 G. of 2-(p-n-hexylphenyl)-5-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid are reacted with 80 ml. of thionyl chloride with the exclusion of moisture and worked up in a manner analogous to that described in Example 7. The remaining 2-(p-n-hexylphenyl)-5-pyrimidinecarboxylic acid chloride is dissolved in 120 ml. of absolute dioxane while warming and added with stirring to a solution of 200 ml. of absolute dioxane saturated with ammonia at room temperature and treated further in a manner analogous to that described in Example 7. A sample of the obtained crude 2-(p-n-hexylphenyl)-5-pyrimidinecarboxamide is sublimed at 180° C. in a high vacuum for purification; melting point 250.2°-258.3° C.
