Reaction Steps
A mixture of 2-[1-hydroxy-1-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl]thiazole (0.33 g), 2-chloromethylquinoline hydrochloride (0.22 g), potassium carbonate (0.5 g) and dimethylformamide (5 ml) was stirred at ambient temperature for 24 hours. The mixture was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water and the organic layer was separated, washed with a saturated aqueous sodium chloride solution, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated. The residue was purified by column chromatography eluting with chloroform/ethyl acetate (9/1 v/v) to give 2-[1-hydroxy-1-[3-(quinol-2-ylmethoxy)phenyl]-2,2,2-trifluoroethyl]thiazole (0.15 g, 30%), m.p. 177° C.
