Procedure

9.63 g (56.6 mmol) of bis(methylmercapto)methylenemalononitrile are suspended in 50 ml of water and admixed with 3.7 ml (67.9 mmol) of methylhydrazine. The mixture is heated at the boil for 1 hour, the reaction solution is cooled and the precipitate is filtered off with suction and recrystallized from ethanol.
