Reaction Steps

To a solution of 6.175 g (13.825 mM) of tert-butyl-(7,7-dimethyl-5,9-dihydro-6,8-dioxabenzocyclohepten-2-yl)methoxydiphenylsilane in 50 ml of tetrahydrofuran-water (4:1) was added 2 ml of trifluoroacetic acid with ice-cooling and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 4 hours. This reaction mixture was poured in aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate and extracted with 3 portions of ethyl acetate. The pooled organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to provide the title compound.
